It is autumn again and that means it is time for boat shows. We have visited one of the biggest in Genoa. Recession in marine business is very noticeable. Exhibition area is quite smaller than previous years. But all major players are still here and they have a lot of new boat models to offer. What is very noticeable is that there are no radical changes in design or equipment. Performance sailing boats are slowly following design lines of ocean racers, while cruising boats are more and more focusing on comfort, regardless of sailing performance. So the difference between racer/cruiser and cruiser is getting bigger and bigger. As far as deck equipment is concerned there is nothing new, just variations of already known things. What is noticeable is the trend of eliminating stainless steel shackles from running rigging and replacing them with soft shackles and soft loops.
